Inside the back of the noble. note, there is a ring of eighteen magnets, the same number and layout Apple uses for MagSafe. We sandwiched them between the leather and microfiber layers, and then backed them with a sheet of magnetic steel to focus the magnetic strength. The magnets are N52 neodymium, the strongest grade made, and the same used in the best MagSafe accessories. We added two more in the cover of the notebook to keep it securely closed when not in use.
I never worked on MagSafe itself at Apple, but I worked with magnets for years. The magnetometer and on the sensing that helps the Vision Pro understand where it is in a room, and the algorithms require these sensors to be very accurate to know where you are in space when you wear the product. I used what I learned there to design the magnetic array on the notebook.
Apple’s MagSafe layout itself is smart. The ring is the right size, and it aligns beautifully into set angles, so the note is straight instead of crooked. We also set our magnets so the note sits perfectly centered on the phone with the pen attached.
A notebook left in a drawer doesn't get written in, so we made one that magnetically attaches to you wherever you go.
